Snowmaker – Winter 2024-2025
Job Description
Department: Mountain Operations Department
Full Time or Part Time Seasonal, Hourly
Effective Date: September 2024
Overview: Snowmakers create man-made snow for the enhancement of the natural snow cover or to substitute for natural snow cover. Man-made snow also allows for prolonged use in high-traffic areas. The snowmakers’ work schedule varies and is weather-dependent, but typically consists of 8 hour and up to 12 hour shifts. We work when Mother Nature gives us weather. This job can be combined with mechanical responsibilities or lift operations to allow for steady employment when Mother Nature is not providing weather. Reliable attendance is required.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Arrive to work on time, dressed, and ready to go to work
- Ensure that snow guns are properly set and ready for start-up
- Ensure that proper operating procedures and company policies are followed
- Ensure that snowguns are operating correctly and producing quality snow and are checked in a timely manner
- Ensure that hoses and guns are properly drained when shut down
- Shovel snow
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Strong personal character and commitment to success of winter season at Ski Big Bear at Masthope Mountain
- Ability to stay positive, focused, and constructive when faced with setbacks, challenges, and while working in an ever-changing environment
- Basic understanding of winter conditions and ability to dress appropriately
- A work background that includes outdoor activities
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Ability to do heavy, physical labor, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and nights
Job Relationships:
- Reports to: Snowmaking and Mountain Operations managers
- Interrelationships: Works closely and communicates effectively with all Lift and Mountain Operations department employees, Patrol, Guests, and other mountain personnel
